Man who broke his hip helped raise £40,000 for Royal United Hospital in 2016 Bath Half

A man who broke his hip last year was among a large team of runners that supported the Royal United Hospital in this year's Bath half marathon.

Dave Broadway was one of the 177 runners in "Ted's Team" that helped to raise £40,000 for the hospital in last month's Vitality Bath Half Marathon.

Despite having broken his hip just one year earlier, the managing director of CFH Docmail joined colleagues to contribute more than £10,000 to the total raised by Ted's Team for wards and departments in the hospital.

Mr Broadway said he was "incredibly pleased" to have completed the Bath Half in a reasonable time, and that he had been amazed at the "fantastic" support he had received.

"Thank you to all of the wonderful people that donated and helped me exceed the £10,000 target – it all looked like a mountain to climb when I started – so to have achieved everything is amazing."

Mr Broadway ran the race with Dave's Docmail Dream Team, a team of runners from the headline sponsors of Ted's Team, CFH Docmail/Velopost.

CFH Docmail/Velopost has supported the hospital through the Forever Friends Appeal since 2012. In that time, it has raised more than £27,000 towards a new cancer centre at the hospital, earning it the status of senior corporate partner which comes with a naming opportunity within the centre.

Tim Hobbs, head of fundraising for The Forever Friends Appeal, said: "CFH Docmail has been an incredible supporter of The Forever Friends Appeal for many years and we are delighted to welcome them as senior corporate partners for the Cancer Care Campaign.

"Their recent achievement of raising £27,000 for the new cancer centre will make a truly significant difference to the lives of our cancer patients at the RUH.

"We would like to say a particular thank you to Dave Broadway and his Dream Team who took part in the Bath Half this year and raised over £10,000 while taking on an such an incredible personal challenge.

"They're a true inspiration."
